About the speakers

Paul Chow
Paul Chow was appointed Chief Executive and an ex-officio member of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) in 2003.

Before he joined HKEx, Mr. Chow was the Chief Executive, Asia Pacific ex-Japan Region, of HSBC Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited for 6 years from April 1997 to April 2003. From November 1991 to January 1997, Mr. Chow was the Chief Executive of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited and before then, he was the Chief Executive of Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited for 2 years.

Mr. Chow is currently a member of the Digital 21 Strategy Advisory Committee of the Government of the HKSAR, the Advisory Committee of the Securities and Futures Commission, the Standing Committee on Company Law Reform, and the Council of the University of Hong Kong. He is also a lay member of the Council of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a director of the board of World Federation of Exchanges.

Stephen Lee
Stephen is the Partner in charge of KPMG's Risk Advisory Services in Hong Kong and China, and the lead partner for KPMG's Hong Kong Audit Committee Institute.

KPMG's Risk Advisory Services practice advises clients in the areas of improved corporate governance practices, effective risk assessment and evaluation, and best practice business processes and internal controls, whether they are manual or automated. KPMG has assisted many companies in the region, as well as subsidiaries of multinationals in the local market, in their efforts to ensure compliance with the increasingly onerous regulatory requirements relating to corporate governance and internal controls.

Stephen is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Stephen has authored numerous articles on corporate governance and risk and controls.

Timothy Copnell
Timothy Copnell is the Director in charge of KPMG's UK Audit Committee Institute - an organisation created to serve audit committee members and help them to adapt to their changing role.

Timothy qualified as a chartered accountant in 1989 and joined KPMG's Department of Professional Practice in 1993 where he took responsibility for corporate governance matters and KPMG's non-executive programme.

His role includes advising on private sector corporate governance and responding to major UK corporate governance developments. His work has enabled him to contribute directly to the changing corporate governance environment through participation on various regulatory and professional working parties. Timothy is the author of KPMG's series of practical guides to corporate governance developments and writes regular articles on corporate governance matters for various publications.

Derek Jackson
Derek is a Senior Manager in the Risk Advisory Services practice in Hong Kong advising on corporate governance practices, internal controls and business risk. Derek has assisted many businesses both in the UK and Hong Kong with implementing good governance and business risk practices. He has also assisted not-for-profit organisations in promoting social corporate responsibility.

Derek is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (UK) and a member of KPMG's Hong Kong Audit Committee Institute.
