Paul Brough

Regional Senior Partner, Hong Kong

Paul is the Regional Senior Partner for KPMG China. He is also the head of KPMG's Financial Advisory Services practice in Asia Pacific, a position he has held since 1998.

He is one of the Liquidators of eight Lehman Brothers entities in Hong Kong and regional lead partner on UBS and KKR.

The FAS practice assists multinationals looking to invest in China, as well as Chinese companies with overseas expansion plans. The team provides financial due diligence, valuations, mergers and acquisitions advisory, investigations and intellectual property protection.

Edward Middleton

Edward Middleton

With a career in restructuring that spans two decades, Edward is one of the Liquidators of eight Lehman Brothers entities in Hong Kong. He was one of the lead negotiators on the sale of the bank's Asian platform to Nomura in October, 2008.

He also recently led the KPMG team engaged in the successful restructuring of Evergrande, a large PRC real estate group.

Since April 2008, Edward is one of the Provisional Liquidators of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines Limited, a long haul budget carrier operating out of Hong Kong to London and Vancouver. He is a former lead advisor in the consensual restructuring of EganaGoldpfeil (Holdings) Limited, a Hong Kong based jewellery designer and manufacturer.

Patrick Cowley

Patrick Cowley

Since joining KPMG Hong Kong in 1996, Patrick has been involved in a wide variety of insolvency and restructuring matters in Hong Kong, China and the wider region.

He is currently one of the Liquidators of a number of Lehman Brothers entities in Hong Kong, and has led our efforts to realize value from Lehman Brothers' investments and real estate exposures around Asia, particularly in India, Japan and Australia.

In April 2008, Patrick was appointed as one of the Provisional Liquidators of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines Limited, a long haul, budget carrier operating out of Hong Kong to London and Vancouver.

Over the last 14 years, Patrick has also been involved in the restructurings and liquidations of a variety of telecoms businesses, financial institutions / brokerages and property development companies, as well as advising KPMG clients in their efforts to reorganise their businesses or exit from unprofitable enterprises.

Warren Phillips

Warren is the practice leader for the Transactions Services Group for Hong Kong and China.

This practice provides due diligence and post-acquisition integration assistance, business valuations and financial modelling.

Warren has assumed responsibility for leading activities related to the principal investments and loans (PI &L) for Lehman entities LBCCA and LBACC.

Doug Ferguson

Doug Ferguson

Doug has over twelve years experience with real estate and financial services sectors in cross-border mergers and acquisitions in Greater China. He has managed a large regional mezzanine fund with direct investment responsibilities in his previous role.

He is currently responsible for managing the Chinese, Malaysian, Vietnamese and certain Thai real estate assets of Lehman Brothers Commercial Corporation Asia Limited (LBCCAL). His team is responsible for completing comprehensive legal and financial due diligence of each asset, managing loan servicing responsibilities and exploring and negotiating potential asset recovery initiatives.

Doug also leads a team providing transaction support to clients investing in distressed assets in China.

Paul Mitchell

Paul Mitchell

Paul has many years of insolvency and restructuring experience. He commenced work with KPMG's Insolvency Division in Australia in 1989 and worked on a number of high profile liquidation and receivership appointments.

In 2001, he relocated to Hong Kong and worked in the restructuring division of another global accountancy firm. He re-joined KPMG in 2005 and was promoted to partner in 2007.

In addition to his insolvency and restructuring skills, Paul has extensive due diligence experience, leading dozens of engagements relating to potential mergers and acquisitions by major corporates and private equity funds. He has also worked in a number of in-house commercial financial roles.

Paul's recent major assignments include the liquidations of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines Ltd and Lehman Brothers Commercial Corporation Asia Limited. On the Lehman Brothers' appointment Paul is responsible for managing and realising the company's real estate portfolio.

Bonn Liu

Bonn has extensive audit experience, including internal control reviews, due diligence and regulatory investigations, for clients in this sector in China and Hong Kong.

Bonn has assumed responsibilities for dealing with the regulated Lehman HK Companies, and for the equities and derivative trading portfolios of LBCCA and LBACC entities.

Fergal Power

Fergal Power

Fergal joined KPMG in Hong Kong in 1999 from Ireland, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant, having trained and worked with KPMG's restructuring practice in Ireland for 4 years.

Fergal is primarily involved in providing financial and operational restructuring advice to corporates and their key stakeholders. With over 11 years of experience in Asia, Fergal has advised on array of complex, multi-jurisdictional transactions, typically where the corporate is financially in stress of distress. Recent transactions on which Fergal has led include the sale of the operations of a global fashion retail chain in Asia and of Egana Goldpfeil Holdings Limited, a global designer, manufacturer, distributor and retailer of luxury branded products.

He is also a senior member of KPMG's team in managing the liquidation of Lehman Brothers in Asian, which involves the management of assets and liabilities in excess of US$40bn across Asia Pacific. Recently, Fergal has advised a number of Asian entities on their acquisition of a number of European based entities in financial distress and their subsequent restructuring of operations.

Fergal also leads KPMG China's strategic cash and crisis cash management advisory team, through which he advises corporates on their cash, treasury and working capital management strategies. His clients include a cross section of organisations from multinationals, private equity houses, private domestic entities and state-owned enterprises.

Sarah Bower

Sarah Bower

Legal Counsel and Director, Transactions and Restructuring
KPMG China


Sarah Bower has recently joined as Legal Counsel and Director within Transactions and Restructuring in Hong Kong. She will provide legal support to the liquidation of Lehman Brothers' Hong Kong entities.

Prior to joining KPMG, Sarah was Senior Legal Counsel for Lehman Brothers Asia and subsequently Nomura International Holdings Limited. In September last year, Nomura bought Lehman's 2,950 Asia-based staff in a US$225m deal. She has been practising law since 1993 and started her career with Lehman Brothers in early 2001 in Japan. In late 2004, she was appointed Head of Legal and Compliance for the bank in Hong Kong.

Sarah also chaired the New Product Committee Asia (NPCA) and the Transaction Approval Committee, from 2003 to 2006.
