Significant cutbacks in production, fluctuations in trade volumes and a restrictive credit environment have all put pressure on the supply chains of global organisations over the past two years.

In China, hundreds, if not thousands of factories closed in 2009 as a result of the global downturn and the impact of this has reverberated along the supply chain. As the world becomes increasingly global with organisations operating successfully across continents and cultures, global supply chain management is at the heart of many businesses' strategies for growth.
